Chapter Thirteen

Switch

“You aren’t joking?” Enzo asks once more. I shake my head and pull the video up on the guy's phone I took back in Italy. I’m happy to be home and so are the girls. I think being away really threw Tessa off too. She wasn’t truly herself there.

“I can’t believe this. And Gerry has no idea that we know?”

“None. I made sure his uncle was dead just as requested.”

“What do we do now?”

“I’m thinkin’ on that. Give me a few more days. We can play the angle that Gerry has put us in. He wants to take out some of our men. We don’t let him. We plan this out. I can get in with Gerry, play the hand he dealt.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, we’ll use me. He wants your men out of the way. What if he thinks I want the same?” I tell him as the plan plays out in my mind. I don’t know if it’s the best idea, but I think it’s the one to go with.

“And who will you kill?” Enzo asks, knowing where this is going.

“I have plenty of people to use as decoys. None of our men will be harmed but we will need to lessen security,” I add.

“I don’t like this idea. Lessening security is fine as far as being at home, but I don’t see that sending you into the lion’s den is the best choice. What if they find out?” he asks me.

“Do you doubt my skills?” I tease, smirking at him. Enzo pours another round of vodka, passing me a glass before shaking his head. I scratch at the stubble on my jaw with my free hand trying to figure out how to make him understand that this is for the best.

“I’ve never doubted your skills, Switch. I doubt their intentions. I wonder why Gerry would deal with the Columbians in the first place when he has plenty of offers coming his way,” he muses. I have thought the same thing many times.

“The only thing I can come up with is that they are the least of our concerns. They aren’t someone that we would even look at. He has an advantage with them,” I tell him. He nods his head and brings his glass to his lips. I’m silent while the plan forms in my mind. I think it’s a solid plan.

“We don’t move on this until we have more information. I want to be sure that Gerry has no knowledge of what we know. How do you plan to handle getting in with him?”

“That’s easy. I call in a few favors. Gerry isn’t as street smart as the rest of us. If I get with some of my old foster care friends that are now serving at lower levels, he will know nothing.” I watch Enzo’s face for a reaction. It takes him a few minutes before he responds.

“Fine. As long as you aren’t harmed in this.”
